Crash Bandicoot: Warped (PS1)-
The third and final game of the official series (not including CTR) developed by Naughty Dog, Warped is the pinnacle of the Crash Bandicoot series that Crash will never surpass again.
The original Crash Bandicoot was good, Crash 2 was Great, but Warped is phenomenal. It combines all the best elements of the first two games, and expands on them in every way possible. The level designs are excellent in the tradition platforming elements, and the game also successfully weaves multiple genres into the game. Mixing different genres into a platformer may seem cliche and overdone by today's standards, the extra modes in Warped still stand the test of time as some of the best ever added to a platformer. Each is fun and could be a full game in it's own right. The jet ski modes also house the best water effects to be seen on the PS1 hands down.
Now whether or not you're a fan of the linear design as opposed to a fully 3D design of games like Mario 64 is another issue. Crash's levels were always linear and tunnel-like, but even in the linear scope, the levels designs excel, and Crash also gains new abilities throughout the game. Another great addition is the platinum relics where you replay all the levels in the game in a time trial mode hoping to get the best time possible to earn Bronze, silver, gold, or Platinum Relics. unlocking them all requires spotless runs, but it adds a lot of extra replay value for the completest.
Overall this is as polished as Crash ever has or ever will be. Once you get into it, you will see why people put it in the running as one of the best PS1 games ever created. It's a great game really.
