Today (08-13-10) I was bored. I may play some more Ape Escape later, but so far today, I played two PS3 (*gasp*) games.
I know this game got rave reviews and game of the year nominations, and so far I find it to be OK. I'm actually not that far into it, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. Oblivion with a gun. That's not a bad thing, but It mainly just makes me want to go back and Play Olbivion instead. I'm sure it's a great game once you get further into it, but right now, I like it, but it's not memorizing to me like it is for so many other gamers out there.
I'll give it more time, but I got bored with it today, so I switched to:
For years and years I wanted a good Red Faction sequel. Red Faction 2 was OK, but not nearly as great as the original. When I first heard about Guerrilla, I was extremely excited................Then I saw that they changed it to another lame ass sandbox game with no personality, and I was enraged.
I finally reluctantly got my hands on this one, and My opinion changed? Hell no. While Guerrilla is a decent game in it's own right, this is just another case of developers using names of their past franchises to make completely different games. This game is not Red Faction, it's Saint's Row on Mars. Take away the building destruction, and you have just another faceless nameless sandbox game. I've played quite a few Sandbox games this gen, and I'm really getting tired of that genre's cliches.
Is the game OK? Yes, it's OK, but I've seen it all before, and given the choice, I think I'd take Mercenaries 2 over Red Faction. Has some similar ideas, but is more fun IMO, and it didn't piss on the memory of it's predecessor. I'll probably still play extremely far into Guerrilla, maybe even beat it, but I don't consider it a real Red Faction game. Red Faction died last generation.
I've still yet to take this game online, and probably will someday assuming anyone's still playing.
Anyways, I probably won't be updating during the weekend. Weekends are usually busy for me (not that there's anyone reading or caring), and I'm usually always busy. Just for future reference.

I'm currently looking forward to being disappointed by the new Deus Ex.

"it's Saint's Row on Mars." Lol yes pretty much.
ReplyDeleteIt is a completely different game than the first 2, but I knew that coming into it so it did not bother me that much. I have already come to terms with the fact that there will probably never be another "real" red faction game. Red faction 1 had a great singleplayer and fun multiplayer. Red Faction 2 had a ok single player but absolutely amazing addictive multiplayer.
But the building destruction engine in this game is extremely impressive. I beat the singleplayer and had fun with it but yea I have played a ton of open world games as well and those aspects of the game annoyed me a bit sometimes.
The online multiplayer of this game is pretty fun though. I disliked it greatly initally because it takes ahile to get used to third person perspective for competiive multiplayer. i could also not help but think about how I would enjoy it so much more if it was in first person... But the multiplayer is very creative and has several mode that actually use the destruction of the game to enhance the gameplay. Modes like siege and demolition are examples of this.
Also, the game has some creative weapons and online they implemented backpacks with differnt powerups that change up the gameplay even more.
While RFG is totally different than the past red factions games, I think you would be missing out if you dismiss it too quickly.
I've put a lot of time on it recently. It's OK, but I'm getting sand-boxed out. I'll have to take it online some day though. I just haven't been in the online playing mood lately.
